Some blue hippo …

Going through some of my stuff I came across an old picture, anyone know what his name is and why he’s so important?

Hint: Metropolitan Museum of Art - Egyptian Arts Gallery

Give up? This little guy is called William. He’s filled with history as he is living proof of ancient Egyptians’ interest in the natural world. Not only that, he has been gifted and re-gifted many times before being sold to Edward S. Harkness (invested with John D. Rockefeller and second largest shareholder in Standard Oil). Later in 1917, William was donated to the Met and he’s been there since.

I can go on about the history of this guy, but take that trip to central park and try to find him. The curators at the Met like to move him around and have a little fun. Just think, you’ll be one of the few people that actually know about William.
