Folks here in spg are genuinely entertained by the whole internet 15 minutes of fame phenoms out there. You know, chocolate rain, numa numa, and my new personal favorite, Kazookeylele, found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAg5KjnAhuU.
Anyway, Paris Hilton’s running for president, Weezer’s got a new video called pork and beans, who doesn’t enjoy the occasional Rick roll even when it happens on our own xm-over-the-pa? It’s all a single <insert favorite search engine here> query away.
Of course, the rules for us are a little different. Someone finds one of these, downloads it, converts it into something we can play locally, and sets it on loop until we’re numb. Back in jewelcor, spg literally played the badger badger loop thing for something like 2 hours nonstop.
But there are some real gems out there that less people see and which include way more talent. A few of my top picks are:
————————-
Rahzel - If your mother only knew. This guy can do a beat and sing at the same time. He even followed it up with beat, bassline, chorus, verse and background vocals, all at once.
Another cool one is a group called Naturally 7. They have a film of them riding in the subway and spontaniously doing an a cappella version of Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight.
There’s a clip of this kid from a freestyle dance competition called Kollaboration. This particular clip is from the one held in 2001. You can typically find it with the keywords “Incredible Freestyle Dancing “. It’s the second kid with the orange shirt.
Finally, there’s some kid named Zach who can fingerpaint like nobody’s business, and he was like 3 years old at the time. Keywords something like: “fingerpaint ninja turtle”, and of course, the word amazing.
——————————
There you have it. It’s what keeps us ticking. I’ve left out the links, except just that one as a teaser, because to actually understand what makes this so much fun, you have to experience the search for this internet treasure - seek out the gems among the junk.
Part of the hunt is to have also experienced so much junk along the way. It’s part of what makes the good ones that much better when you find them. But now you have enough information to find my favorites along with some nonsense along the way - a sort of tutorial to get you started on the path to internet pop culture enlightenment.
