Sleep when I die - No time for that now

K. I cant see any way to replay to Joe D on PM blog, so Ill repost here.

Joe said:

Who needs sleep?

Not George S who has been here programming since 5:30 am yesterday. That is right folks George  by the end of the day at 5 should have put in around a 32+hr shift. Did anyone make George do this, NO. George just cares about his clients and his coworker.

So here is my salute to you George

I say:

Thanks, Joe, but seriously keep a few things in mind before you thank me too much:

We are always busy in SPG

Custom always has plenty of work, and they do way more complex stuff. Lots of value there, and they do it day in and day out without bragging, every one of them.

People like Adam K, Agatka, Warren, just march through, getting things done well and done right… every single one of them. I really cant name any slackers over here. AT ALL.
And not just us code monkeys. Who doesn’t know the insane hours Beth puts in?

But do you know that most of my team, or former team, Chris M’s team, are here every single night?

And Mike Lugo, Mike Collins, ahave been doing it long before us.

Migs was here with me last night until 3am.

Seriously, I am not the one who should be held up as some great example. I appreciate your kind words, Joe, but it’s guys like you who are here day in and day out that shine.

Ok, before I start to ramble, we can’t forget the traffic cops. Michal and Jeff work extremely hard all the time to make sure our schedules are as tidy as they can be, and it can be a thankless job.

There are folks that accomplish so MUCH; Folks like Keith Lindsey put in plenty of extra time. Seriously, when’s the last time Keith WASN’T approaching 60 per week?

Tim Whitacre is here early every day and is always working late from home.

Again, if I mention each person by name, we’re going to be here a while. Im not forgetting you. Not one.

All that said, our problem here and now is time. We (SPG) strive for quality. And I know the best PMs are ones doing their best under the pressure they face each day to help our clients. Each hour. Yeah. Each minute.

So that leaves time. That’s why Ill be here Saturday. And Sunday, too if Lugo wants it (please don’t want it, Mike. j/k).

So seriously, Im not your hero. Not even close. Everyone I mentioned above is.

And more than that, Scott, Joe, and Frank, are our heros. They built this and are keeping it floating. If we accept that these are the biggest heroes, then we owe them the most.
